Why Pallito?
The #1 packaging materials of everyday products consist of a variety of plastics that are difficult to dispose of or require significant energy and resources when attempting to return them to the consumer market through costly recycling.
But even classic materials such as wood, e.g. for the ice cream sticks, aren´t harming the environment, but quantities of them are needed.
The ice cream sticks used for ice cream products are almost exclusively made of beech wood - for quality reasons, wood from 80 to 100 year old trees is usually used.
The demand for wood is high, and the price of wood is rising steadily. The lack of wood as a raw material on the one hand and the global forest dieback on the other hand is striving for an alternative. Until now, there has been no comparable substitute material.
In today's world, the focus is on a sustainable lifestyle and a conscious nutrition. The lifestyle trends aim at organic ingredients, but also at the sustainability of the packaging materials.
Modern human wants to enjoy the product, but not litter the earth and intentionally harm his own environment.
What is Pallito´s advantage?
The component of this material is lignin, which is the second most abundant polymer in nature after cellulose. Lignin is a by-product of the paper industry and is produced worldwide at a rate of about 50 million tons per year. If lignin is mixed with natural fibers (flax, hemp or other fibrous plants) and natural additives, the result is a fiber composite material that can be processed under increased temperature and pressure to produce molded parts on plastic injection molding machines.
